RONDA GUIDED WALKING - 7 nights.
31st October 2009
24th April 2010
1st May 2010
8th May 2010Based in the boutique Hotel Enfrente Arte in Ronda, we have a week of grade 2 walks combined with time to discover the beautiful town of Ronda, perched on the El Tajo gorge.
We will experience some of Andalusia’s most picturesque landscapes in an area that has some of the best walking in Spain. Those not wishing to walk will find a rich cultural heritage waiting to be discovered in the old town of Ronda, which dates back to the Moorish times. It is also possible to make a day trip to Sevilla, one of the loveliest and most exciting Andalusian cities.
Walks will be in the stunning mountain ranges around Ronda: the Sierra de Grazalema, the Sierra de las Nieves and, of course, the Serrania de Ronda. These areas combine rugged mountain scenery with oak forests and the famous white villages of Andalusia where traditions have remained unchanged for centuries.
Sierra de Grazalema: A UNESCO biosphere reserve, the park is famous for its spectacular, rugged landscape of cliffs, gullies, caves and gorges. 1300 Mediterranean plant species have been registered here, many of them endemic. There are also colonies of griffon and black vultures.
Sierra de las Nieves: Also a UNESCO biosphere reserve, this natural park has had very little human influence and has a rich variety of flora and fauna amongst its breathtaking scenery.
Serrania de Ronda: A beautiful mountain area studded with charming white villages and offering valley walks in one of the few remaining natural Mediterranean oak forests.
Hotel Enfrente Arte has individually designed rooms with original works of art, an outdoor swimming pool, sauna, terrace, and free use of the bar whenever you want. It is located in a historic building in the old town of Ronda.
Ronda itself has many attractions including the oldest bullring in Spain, the House of the Moorish King, Arab baths and, of course, a walk into the gorge for the famous view of the 18th century New Bridge. You may also wish to taste the award-winning Ronda wines in the Wine Museum.
Meals will be a combination of picnic lunches, or possibly a village bar for tapas. In the evenings we will be able to sample local dishes in several different restaurants and tapas bars in town, completing our evening with a stroll around the cobbled streets. We will also hold a special paella evening and a Moorish dinner in the hotel.
A relaxed, easy-paced week of superb walking combined with historical and cultural discovery. An unforgettable Andalusian experience.
